4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

The season of spring may have arrived but in Boise it’s not all warm and cozy outside. Your furnace has been running for months striving to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to give your furnace some love. If you hear weird noises or the heating system has turned itself off, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a severe gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call TML Service Experts immediately.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, review these tips from TML Service Experts.

  • Confirm your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound ridiculous, but we have hectic days and life happens, so it can be easy to overlook the simple fixes. Neglecting to switch over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair and installation when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Since we’re talking about switches, make sure your furnace switch is moved to the up, or “on” position. As before, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you tend to look at frequently. Most furnaces have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about needing our furnace repair man.

  • Swap your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your system run more efficiently and put off any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for decreased performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy. You can also schedule yearly maintenance with TML and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your tune-up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Confirm that your circuit breaker that controls your heating system is in the “off” position. If it ends up in the middle position, switch the breaker to the “off” position and then switch back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get expensive, so avoid a future issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from TML Service Experts. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
