Common Boise AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed a few of the most common air conditioning problems Boise faces, but today we are here to tell you about some frequent air conditioning problems that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not blowing cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not really cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels checked. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air being released from the AC is truly cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is often a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to check if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the bigger pipe is “sweating” or covered in condensation, feel the pipe to see if it’s cold. If it feels cold, you are most likely good to go and don’t require more refrigerant.

If you’re not positive or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call TML Service Experts and we’ll come out and confirm your refrigerant levels and learn why your A/C system is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central air conditioning systems, due to the dangers of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t rotating.

There are multiple reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One is that it just burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is obstructed. If you can look for these things, you may be able to find the trouble; but, if not, give TML Service Experts a call and we can determine what has stopped your condenser fan from turning and walk you through your options to get your air conditioning problem resolved.

Your air conditioner is not providing ample air cooling.

It sounds crazy, but try dropping the temperature on your thermostat. It seems funny but sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your home cooling and comfortable again, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause major cooling troubles. Another issue that could result in your lack of cooling is an AC that is not sized correctly, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are constructed. TML Service Experts is happy to come out and conduct an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your AC is causing your troubles.

AC shuts on and off constantly

If your air conditioner is short cycling, or turning on or off repeatedly, it could mean one of a few things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the condenser and/or evaporator is cleaned and all blockages moved aside, you may be back to a regular running AC. Note that humidity also plays a role so if your home cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes your house to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work vigorously to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your trouble, whatever usual or unusual A/C trouble you run into, TML Service Experts is here for you 24/7/365. We are available all the time so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your comfortable lickety-split.
